ECS Update Term 3, Week 7 – Friday 9 September 2022

Kia Ora Parents and Caregivers,

As we go through today I have often found myself reflecting on the life of Queen Elizabeth II.  I know that I was surprised personally by the sense of loss I felt when I awoke this morning to the news of her death.  When I think of the Queen I reflect on a lady who demonstrated integrity and humility.  I also reflect on her commitment to her faith, both in her formal role and in her personal life.

In her first Christmas address in 1952 she issued the following request for prayer ‘Pray for me … that God may give me wisdom and strength to carry out the solemn promises I shall be making, and that I may faithfully serve Him and you, all the days of my life.’  That desire to faithfully serve God over her life was certainly something she did her absolute best to live out over the following 70 years.  In December 2000 she said ‘For me the teachings of Christ and my own personal accountability before God provide a framework in which I try to lead my life.’

Throughout her 96 years Christ’s example and teaching have been seen and acted out in the dutiful and faithful life of our servant-hearted Queen.

One of the challenges she leaves for all of us is to also live lives of integrity and faithfulness, giving all honour and glory to our Lord Jesus Christ.  Over the coming days, as the world reflects corporately and individually on the life of Queen Elizabeth II it is my prayer that each of us will be touched by her faith and encouraged to further develop our own relationship with Christ, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

Time 2 Talk – Parent Information Night

Tuesday 20th September 7- 8:30pm at school.

An evening for parents of children at all year levels.

(Please note this event is not suitable for you to bring your children.  The focus is on equiping parents).

In today’s digital world, young people being exposed to pornography isn’t a question of ‘if’ but ‘when’. Pornography is sweeping through our society like a tsunami, and we have yet to see the long-term impacts. By providing strategies that allow parents and kids to work as a team, we can mitigate the harmful effects of pornography on Aotearoa’s young people.

Tāima Kōrero equips parents and educators with the tools to effectively talk about pornography with young people. By having the right conversations in a timely way, we can reduce the impact of pornography and support our young people to have healthy sexual relationships as adults.

Brett Harvey will share from his own experience,  research and within the framework of his personal Christian faith.

Testimonial:

“Dealing with anything to do with pornography can be an incredibly difficult and sensitive conversation. The Time 2 Talk Team handle this potentially explosive topic with great dignity, value, and authenticity. Their presentation contains a very positive, inspiring, and encouraging message while at times needs to be confronting and challenging. ALL adults (not just parents), will benefit from the words of wisdom and hope that are passionately shared. The Time 2 Talk Team are VERY easy to deal with and will not push themselves on any school or organisation. They listen and tailor their message to meet your needs. Their overall aim is simple. They have a genuine desire to help parents help children to stand against the toxic and insidious effects of pornography.”

Middle School Information Evening

If you have a child who is going to be in Year 7 next year, you are invited to the Middle School Open Evening.

2023 Year 7 & 8 Camp

If your child will be in Year 7 or 8 in 2023 we have an exciting Camp planned in Term 1.
We will be going to Hanmer Springs on the 29th – 31st of March for our Camp.
At this stage the cost of camp will be around $250 per person and we will be requesting your contribution prior to the camp.  The contributions toward this camp will be received as tax deductible donations (you will be able to claim back 1/3 of this donation as a tax rebate at the end of the financial year).

If you would like to set up a regular payment plan, please see Louise Morrison at the office or email office@emmanuelchristian.school.nz

Cultural Day

On Thursday of week 10 (29th September) it is our school’s cultural day.
It is a great day for us to
celebrate our amazingly diverse school community.

Cultural Day will begin with a parade in the morning and students are encouraged to come to

school dressed in traditional clothes (or something that reflects this) of the culture they relate to. If your child(ren) would prefer not to do this, then they just wear their school uniform. In the case that the traditional clothing is special, students are able to change out of them and back into their school uniforms following the parade.

As part of the celebrations, we plan to set up the hall with cultural stations representing some of
the cultures in our school. This will run in the afternoon from 1:30pm until 3:30pm. For this, we
need your support. If you are willing to help with the event, whether it is providing materials, ideas, or coming to run a station, please fill in the form below and return to your child’s classroom teacher by Wednesday 23 August.
All who are able to help will then have a chance to meet together to
discuss plans.

If you have any questions about Cultural Day, please feel free to contact Bronwyn van Mechgelen or Christine Liu.

Lost Property

The Lost Property boxes are located in the Office Hallway (in the shelves by the internal door to K5) and in the Middle School central foyer.   There are over 10 Polar Fleece jackets in the Lost Property currently.  If items are named we try to get them back to their owner but if they are not named they sit in the Lost Property until the end of term when they are donated or discarded.

School Photos

If you didn’t order a photo through PhotoLife, but would like to, you are still able to do this online.  Mrs Brand in the Office has each child’s individual code which you will need to view and order the photos.  Please call or email the Office to get this code.
