ECS Update Term 2, Week 8 – Friday 12th June 2026
|
|
|
Kia ora e te whānau,
What a beautiful, vibrant week it has been at our school! This week, we celebrated International Languages Week, focusing on the incredible beauty and diversity of languages from around the world. It has been a wonderful reminder of the joy we find in celebrating the diversity of who God has created us to be. Each culture and tongue reflecting a unique facet of His creativity.
The absolute highlight was witnessing our community embody the beautiful picture found in Revelation 7:9, which describes a great multitude from every nation, tribe, people, and language standing before the throne. We are so proud of how our students embraced the opportunity to learn, celebrate, and worship together in true unity this week.
Read on below for the full highlights from our i assemblies, student leadership stories, and special thanks to our wonderful community!
We are so incredibly proud of how our students embraced the opportunity to learn, celebrate, and worship together in unity.
Ngā mihi nui,
Alistair McKinnon Principal Emmanuel Christian School

International Languages Week
|
This week, we celebrated International Languages Week– the beauty and diversity of languages from around the world.
At both assemblies (Middle School and Junior School), students and staff lifted their voices in a powerful, united chorus of “How Great Is Our God”—sung in more than 18 different languages! We are so proud of how our students embraced the opportunity to learn, celebrate, and worship together in unity.
Hearing our students praise God in so many different tongues was a deeply emotional and inspiring experience, reflecting the Scripture in Revelation 7:9:
“After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude… from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb…”
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the many parents who supported their children by helping them learn and practise their parts for the song at home. Your encouragement and partnership played a significant role in the beautiful outcome we witnessed at the assemblies. We would also like to thank the parents and family members who were able to join us at the assemblies this week. Your presence added to the joy and sense of community we cherish at ECS. It was a blessing to worship and celebrate alongside you.
We would also like to extend a special thank you to a group of Middle School students who generously volunteered their time to visit our Junior School classes and teach phrases from their heritage languages. Through their enthusiasm and leadership, students had the opportunity to learn greetings and expressions in Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish. This was a wonderful way to celebrate the richness of our diverse community and foster a deeper appreciation for different cultures and languages.
Thank you for your ongoing support in helping us cultivate a Christ-centred, global-minded school community.

Mobility parking spaces at School
|
Parents and caregivers are kindly reminded that the school’s designated mobility parking spaces are reserved strictly for vehicles displaying a valid mobility permit.
These spaces are essential for members of our community who require accessible parking due to mobility needs.
We ask everyone to please show consideration and respect by leaving these parking spaces available for those who genuinely need them. Your cooperation helps ensure our school remains safe, inclusive, and accessible for all.

On Wednesday the 17th of June, we will be having a non uniform day to raise funds for the 40 Hour Challenge.
Students have been rasing money for the 40 Hour Challenge for the past term, and are getting very close to our goal of $3750.00 raised.
We have been raising money for the people of the Solomon Islands, who have been heavily affecyted by climate change. They have been struggling to grow and find food, so World Vision has been helping fund new gardens to grow more crops through the challenging times they face.
We ask that all students who attend school in Non Uniform attire to bring a gold coin donation to help achieve our goal and further help those in need.

Keeping our School Community Healthy: When to stay home
|
At our school, we love seeing our ākonga (students) in class every day, learning and catching up with their friends. Regular attendance is incredibly important for their progress and wellbeing! However, as we manage the usual bugs that circulate, we also need to balance this by keeping our school environment safe and healthy for everyone.
A friendly reminder about tummy bugs: If your child has experienced vomiting or diarrhoea, Health New Zealand guidance requires them to stay home from school for at least 48 hours after their last symptom. We know it can sometimes be a bit tricky to decide when a child is ready to come back, but viruses that cause tummy bugs spread very easily in classrooms. Giving them that full 48-hour window ensures they are completely recovered, have their energy back for learning, and aren’t at risk of passing anything on to their classmates or staff.
Another common illness a is Hand, Foot and Mouth. In this case the medical advice is that children should stay away from schools (and early learning centres) until all blisters have dried up so that these are not infectious.
What to do if your child is unwell:
-
Let us know: Please contact the school office as early as possible to report their absence and the reason for it.
-
Need advice? If you are ever worried about your child’s symptoms, you can contact your GP or call Healthline anytime on 0800 611 116 for free, 24/7 health advice.
Thank you so much for your support in keeping our whole school community healthy, happy, and ready to learn!

Bikes and Scooters on the School grounds
|
We love seeing so many of our students active and riding to school. However, we have noticed an increasing number of students riding their bikes and scooters while on the school grounds before and after school. To keep everyone safe, all bikes and scooters must be walked once inside the school gates.
We will be talking to the students at school to remind them of this, and we would greatly appreciate it if you could reinforce this safety message at home. Thank you for helping us keep our school site safe for everyone!

The ordering process is quick, payments are secure, and delivery to school is reliable and easy.
Parents can order using the Kindo app (iPhone and Android) and choose from a range of convenient payment options including card, bank transfer, Google Pay, Apple Pay and more. The system also includes helpful allergen alerts and automated reminders, so no one misses out on lunch day.
