ECS Update Term 2, Week 4 – Friday 15th May 2026
|
|
|
Kia ora e te whānau,
As we move further into Term 2, it has been wonderful to see our school community continuing to come together in so many positive ways. On Wednesday we enjoyed a fantastic Cross Country afternoon. The weather was kind to us, students gave their very best effort, and there was a real sense of encouragement and house spirit throughout the day. It was especially encouraging to see so many parents and whānau there supporting and cheering on our students. Thank you for helping make these events such a positive experience for our children.
A special thank you also goes to Mr Tom Littlejohn for the significant amount of organisation and preparation that goes into an event like this. We are very grateful for his leadership and commitment to providing opportunities that encourage perseverance, participation, and teamwork.
As a school, we are continually reminded of the importance of thankfulness and joy in our daily lives. Psalm 100 encourages us to “Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise; give thanks to Him and praise His name.” In the busyness of school life, this is a helpful reminder to pause and recognise God’s goodness and faithfulness. We are thankful for the many opportunities our students have each day, for the support of our community, and for the privilege of walking together as a Christ-centred learning community.
Ngā mihi nui,
Alistair McKinnon Principal Emmanuel Christian School

Teacher Only Day 29 May and Early class finish Wednesday 3rd June
|
On Friday 29th May School will be closed for a Teacher Only day. Staff will be using this time to work on the implementation of the curriculum changes currently underway.
On Wednesday 3rd June classes will finish at 2:15pm. This is to allow staff to travel to a combined Christian Schools professional development session. These chances to gather together with staff from across Canterbury is really valuable as together we grow together as a community. Looking to do our part in serving God within our Christian School communities.

Update from the Emmanuel Christian School Board
|
Kia ora ECS parents,
As a Board we are so privileged to serve you, and your children, who are part of our wonderful school community.
While this is our first newsletter note to parents in 2026 there has certainly been plenty underway across the first part of the school year – and there is a lot ‘on the go’ as we look ahead.
We are continuing to develop our ECS Strategic Plan which will guide our next three years. The feedback which a number of the community provided in late 2025 has been used for this process. We will share the plan once it has been confirmed.
The annual process is underway with our auditors with our 2025 Annual Report and finances, and we will make this available on the school website once it is ready.
It’s exciting to see our school community growing by approximately one classroom each year. The Board is very focused on supporting Alistair and the school leadership to make sure we are managing this growth well, and looking ahead in our planning.
The development of the physical site is the responsibility of the Emmanuel Proprietors Trust. Later this month we are having a combined planning morning where both the BOT and Proprietors will come together pray and talk about the future for our wonderful school, including site and building development.
There are also many new families who have joined the school this year. The BOT is listed on the school website (BOT and Proprietors – Emmanuel Christian School) and to help you get to know us some brief profiles will be shared in newsletters over the next few weeks.
