ECS Update Term 2, Week 2 – Friday 1st May 2026

Kia ora e te whānau,
It has been a refreshing week, both inside and outside our classrooms. The warm sun has provided us with some consistent warmth, I’m reminded of the verse from Psalm 113:3: “From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets, the name of the Lord is to be praised.” It’s wonderful to see the students enjoying the outdoors and to feel that collective lift in spirits that a consistent blue sky brings. We are deeply grateful for these moments of seasonal grace.
Earlier this week, we had the distinct pleasure of hosting the Principal and several staff members from Renew School (Whangarei). It was a fantastic morning of fellowship, professional sharing, and mutual encouragement. Strengthening the ties between our Christian schools allows us to better serve our students and remain aligned in our shared mission of Christ-centred education. We are blessed to be part of a supportive wider network of schools across New Zealand.
Save the Date: Supporting Your Child’s Faith
We have an exciting event coming up that we would love you to mark in your calendars. On Wednesday, 3 June, Christian schools from across Christchurch are coming together to host a special Parents’ Night featuring Dan Paterson from Questioning Christianity. This event will be held at the La Vida Centre in Upper Riccarton. Further details regarding timing will be sent out soon. We believe it will be an incredibly empowering night for every parent in our community.
Dan is an exceptional speaker known for his ability to navigate the tough questions of faith in a modern world. This evening is specifically designed to:
- Equip parents with tools to engage in meaningful faith conversations.
- Encourage you in your role as the primary spiritual nurturers of your children.
- Strengthen the foundations of faith within our homes.
Ngā mihi nui,
Alistair McKinnon Principal Emmanuel Christian School

Monster of the Month!
In Monster Music we have an award called Monster of the Month – awarded to a student that has been working extremely hard.
Congratulations to Reid Cullen who is the Monster of the Month for May!
Reid is a guitar loving superstar, he’s ready to shred and shows up with a smile that makes every lesson a jam session! He has a great taste in music and a natural feel for his instrument which comes from practicing at home and bringing fresh discoveries to class each week. We can’t wait to see where his talent takes him! Shot Reid Your a legend in the making!

There has been a significant increase in items, particulalry polar fleeces, being left in the school grounds this term.
Please take the time to ask your child/ren if they have the right polar fleece, and be sure to check our lost property at the School Office if your child/ren has misplaced theirs.
Please ensure that all uniform items are clearly labelled with your childs name (esp if purchased second hand – erase the previous name and rename to the current owner).
If you are unsure where our Lost Property is kept, please stop by the office and ask one of the lovely staff to point you in the right direction.

We have free period products available, provided by the Period Products in School Initiative Ikura | Manaakiti te whare tangata.
These are available to all students who need them, for both school and home use. We have a range of individual products available in the senior changing room and full packs in the Sickbay (in the drawers) and girls may come and help themselves to these products at any time. They can take just the items they need or they can take multiple packs home.
Please let your daughters know about these products and ensure they stock up on enough packs to see them through the school holidays.
