ECS Update Term 1, Week 9 – Thursday 28th March 2024

Dear Parents and Caregivers

This weekend we celebrate Easter.  The incredible undeserved gift from God.  That the creator of the universe would choose to send His Son to live as a man, and pay the price for our sins is really to big to comprehend.  This really is the most incredible act of love.  Don’t just let this weekend pass you by: Slow down. Get away from distractions. Quiet your soul and wait patiently upon the Lord. Pray as you read his Word and meditate on his truths that our God would come and meet with you right where you are at.

Thank you again for your support and prayers for the school.  Enjoy the Easter break and we look forward to seeing everyone back for the final 2 weeks of term on  Wednesday 3rd April.  Please note that NZ Schools are closed on Easter Tuesday 2nd April.

Blessings,

 ECS Team

Board Election Results

Thank you again to all the candidates who stood for the recent Board Election.  It was fantastic to have 7 people willing to put their hands up to serve in this way.

With voting having closed I would like to inform you that Shaun Liu and Lucy Harema have been elected as the new parent elected representatives on the Board.  We look forward to their input.

Please continue to pray for the Board as they carry out their important governance roll within the School.

The full Board is:

John van Ameyde – Presiding Member (Chair) – Proprietor appointee

Warren Rosser – Parent Elected Representative

Natalie Sterne – Parent Elected Representative

Ruth Murray – Proprietor appointee

Kim Coleman – Staff elected Representative

Alistair McKinnon – Principal

Lucy Harema – Parent Elected Representative

Shaun Liu – Parent Elected Representative

John Hastie – Proprietor appointee

Lunchtime opportunity

From the start of Term 2 we are looking for someone to join our team.  We are looking for someone who would be interested in providing some support and company for some junior students during the lunch break (12:30-1:15).  This would ideally suit someone who lives close to the school.  This is an opportunity for a paid position.

If you are interested or would like further information please email: principal@emmanuelchristian.school.nz

Thanks

Winter Sport 2024

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

During Term 2 & 3, on a Friday afternoon for 6 weeks per term we have teams of Year 5-8 students travel to Hagley park to play Football, Hockey & Netball against other schools from around Christchurch. We typically trial for teams late in Term 1 or early in Term 2 depending on timings and other events.

For us to be able to enter into these competitions, we need some parents who are able to help with the coaching of a team on a Friday afternoon.

This typically takes from 12:30pm – 3:15pm if you come with us on the bus or from 1pm – 2:15pm if you meet us at Hagley park.

If you are able to help, or would like some further informartion please contact Tom Littlejohn tom@emmanuelchristian.school.nz

Without some parent help we would not be able to be fully invovled in this valuable activity.

Thank you for considering this.

Reader Writer Volunteers Wanted

The purpose of a Reader Writer is to assist students on a one-to-one basis in examinations and assessments.

This can involve reading instructions / questions and writing / typing answers for the student at a speed they can follow / or supervising students as they complete their own work.

Reader Writers are required at occasional times throughout the week during school terms to assist students with an internal assessment and practice external examinations. These are usually 1 period (1 hour) slots but when it is busy you may be asked to come in for more than 1 period.

Please see the letter attached below for more information.
