Board of Trustees Election Update

Thank you to all of you who prayerfully considered being nominated for the Board of Trustees.   It is fantastic and really encouraging to have 7 really high caliber candidates for this election.  Unfortunately there are only 2 vacancies as all of our candidates have so much to offer.

As parents you will be sent voting information on Monday.  Voting will remain open until the 25th March at 4pm.

To allow you to start to think about who you would like to vote for I have attached the candidate statements for our 7 candidates.
Can I encourage you to read these carefully and pray about who you should vote for?  A great way to honour these 7 candidates would be to have a really high number of you vote in this election.

Year 3-10 Parent Teacher Meetings – Reminder

On Tuesday 27th and Thursday 29th February we have an opportunity for parents and caregivers of Year 3-10 students to meet with their child(ren)s teacher.  The purpose of this is to talk about how the year has started and any observations made over the first 4-5 weeks of the year.  Bookings for these interviews are now open.  These will close at 4pm on Monday 26th February.

To book an interview time go to this link:  Interview Bookings

For those of you with children in Harakeke, Koru 1 and Koru 2, your teacher will be in touch to arrange interview times across the year.  These normally happen after they have completed 20, 40, 60 or 80 weeks of school.  You will hear from your child’s teacher just before these interviews are due.

Music in 2024

We have a wonderful Music programme run by Mrs Naomi Langford here at Emmanuel Christian School.  The following notice outlines the many, various, opportunities students have to become involved in Music this year.

Please encourage your child to be involved in the Music Programme at Emmanuel! I have spoken to various  adults over the years who wished that they had been involved in Music when they were younger and couldn’t  due to financial constraints, lack of opportunity or commitment. There are many opportunities that your child can join for free at Emmanuel which will give them an experience they will remember all their lives!

Please click on the link below to read the notice from Mrs Langford and if you have any questions feel free to pop in and see her in the Music room on Monday, Tuesday or Friday or email her anytime: naomi@emmanuelchristian.school.nz

Baking Paper Fundraiser

We are running the popular Baking Paper, Catering Foil, Catering Film and Minigrip Bag fundraiser again this term.

Order forms went home earlier this week (also attached below).  These need to be returned to the Office by Tuesday 5th March along with payment.
Payment can be made by online banking to the School Account 06-0821-0208431-00 (reference Baking Paper and your name), by Eftpos or by Cash.

We will let you know when your order is ready to collect, should be in Week 7.

Funds raised will go toward sport team uniforms (Basketball, netball etc).
Thank you for your support.

Bike Safety

It is great to see numbers of students using bikes or scooters to get to and from school.  Over the last couple of weeks we have noticed some safety issues both for those riding bikes / scooters and for other users of the school site.

If your child does bring a scooter or bike to school then can we please ask that:

1) Bikes / Scooters are stored during the day in the bike stand.  Locking these is very much recommended.

2) Please walk scooters and bikes through the school grounds and only ride them once off the school property.  This avoids them being a saftey risk for others and also helps to reduce the risks as they are riden through our busy after school carpark area.

Thank you.

Scholastic Book Club – last day for orders is today!

Once per term each student will receive a brochure for the book club to bring home.
If you would like to order any of the books, this can be done online on LOOP.
For your first time you will need to register in order to make a Book Club LOOP login.
We cannot take orders/payment via the Office so please order online
Instructions are on the back of the brochure.  You will have approximately two weeks to place your order.
Once orders close, they will be sent to school and will come home with your child. On all orders the school earns 15% in scholastic rewards which benefits our school library.

Emmanuel Christian School does not endorse all material that is available for purchase from Scholastic Book Club.  Please use your discernment when selecting reading material for your child.

Closing date : TODAY! Friday 23rd February

If you didn’t receive a brochure we have some at the Office and they are also available online on LOOP.

Ngai Tahu Student Support

If your children are of Ngai Tahu descent, there is funding available for tuition of students from year 1-13 through Boost your Learning’s one-on-one online tuition services.

To be eligible for funding, akonga need to be registered with Whakapapa Ngai Tahu and currently enrolled in school.  For more details, further clarification of the eligibility criteria and the application form to access the Tahua Taunaki Akonga Learner Support Fund please visit http://ngaitahu.iwi.nz/whanau/opportunities/tahua-taunaki-akonga-learner-support-fund/ or pick up a notice from the school Office.

If your child is of Maori descent please let the Office know the iwi you affiliate to.

Library Update

It is heartening to see the children getting back into the Library after the holidays – although I think the new sandpit is proving to be a bit of competition with the younger ones!

The Summer Reading loans are now overdue, so if you have had a communication from me, please help your child to find and return their loans. Please email me if you have any questions.

Help your child find a special place to keep their school library books, and remind them to bring them to school on their library day.

   Mon: K3
Wed: K4, K1, Harakeke, Y7 English (even weeks only)
   Friday: K2, K5, K6, Y8 English (even weeks only)

I am also open at lunchtimes on these days.
If you wish to return books other than at these times, there is a reddish-coloured bin on wheels, which will be left in the bag bay. Please feel free to use it, and maybe email me to let me know.

Any good, used donations are always welcome.
And please visit the Dove Bookshop at the far end of the Bishopdale Mall. They are sponsoring us this year, and have a great selection of used books at very reasonable prices.

Thanks, Nicki

Sandpit Toy Fundraising Update

Thank you for your support of our non-uniform day earlier this week.
We raised $306 which will be used to purchase good quality toys for the Junior sandpit.  I am sure they will get a lot of use as the sandpit is extremely popular.

We would also again like to thank the group of parents who made this sandpit project possible.
