Market Day

As part of the Year 7 and 8 Enterprise studies, the students have been creating and developing businesses that will be selling food, goods and services at Market Day.

On Thursday 30th November during lunchtime (12:30 – 1:15pm) there will be a chance for students to purchase some food items.  There will be a variety of different food items for sale including savoury and sweet options (mainly sweet).  There will also be a few other options including lucky dip, splashing a teachers, spicy and sour challenge etc.
The price of items varies from $1 – $4.

On the day students will exchange their money for tickets.  There will be two different coloured tickets; one will represent 50c and the other $1.  This will be their currency to spend at the market stalls.

This year the money made from Market Day will be going to Tearfund – Gift for Life charity.

Summer Reading

At the start of each new school year, we often see evidence of ‘The Summer Slide’ in our students. This means that some of the gains they have made in Reading over the previous year are lost.
Research shows that as much as 3 months of progress could be lost over the summer holidays. Every year!

To help with this, we invite your family to borrow books from our library to enjoy over the holidays.
Your child may borrow up to ten books for the holidays so long as:

  •  they have no outstanding loans or charges, and
  •  they are returning to ECS next year

If you wish your child(ren) to participate, please download and fill in the attached permission slip and return to the Library by Friday 1st December.. Hard copies of this form will be available from the school office or the library.
When permission has been received, your children may borrow up to 10 books each during their library time or  lunchtime in Week 9. (4th – 8th December).
If you would like to choose for them, or help them make their choices, the Library will also be open on Monday 4th, Tuesday 5th and Wednesday 6th December, from 2:45 to 3:30pm.
These books will need to be returned in the first week of school in 2024. Please try to keep them together so that it is an easy job to locate them for their return. They could be kept in the bag provided by you!

Summer Holiday Reading Challenge :
Take a photo of someone reading in an interesting place! Up a tree..? In a tent..?
Where else could be fun?  (P.S. It should be a real person!)
Email these to me, and I’ll make a display in February!
