ECS Update Term 4, Week 1 – Friday 13th October 2023

Kia ora

Welcome back to Term 4.  I know I am very pleased to be back after a great term away.  While I have seen lots of different things, learnt lots and certainly been challenged, there is nothing quite like being back home.  We really do have the privilige of living in an amazing city, we have so much to be thankful for.

As I return I would like to thank Tom Littlejohn and the staff at Emmanuel for all they have done during Term 3.

It has been great to catch up with many of you over the last few days and I am excited about what Term 4 has in store.

Above all I am grateful to God, for who He is, and for His faithfulness and love.

Amine.’

“May the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.” (Heb. 13:20-21)

SchooI Board – Mid Term Election 2023

Thank you to all of you who considered the option of standing to be a parent representative on the school Board of Trustees.  Unfortunately we did not have any nominations by the close of the nomination period.  This means we will be calling for nominations again early 2024 for the 2 vacant positions.

The current Board members will continue to serve the school over the end of the school year.  This includes a number of parent representatives who are in the middle of their 3 year term on the board.  If you would like to consider this role and would like further information or to talk about what is involved please contact Alistair and we can arrange a time to meet either with him or John van Ameyde the current Board chair.

Book Character Day – Wednesday 18th October

Books are such a great way to communicate ideas, share stories and build our understanding.  The characters we remember from books we have read (or had read to us) can really add to our days.

On Wednesday we have book character day at school.  This is a chance for us to come to school dressed as a character from a book.

At the start of the day we will have a parade so everyone can see the different characters.  Parents are very welcome to stay and join us for this parade.

Student Enrolments 2024

We are now reaching  the end of the enrolment process for 2024.  Working through all the enrolments received has been a challenging task.  We are very aware that there will be lots of disappointed families, as we have received significantly more applications than we have been able to accept.

There are a large number of dedicated Christian families across Christchurch looking for Christian based schooling for their children.  Currently the roll cap restrictions mean that the Christian Schools are unable to meet this demand.  This is really disappointing for numbers of families and for the schools.

I can assure you that we are very aware of this and the Christian Schools have been working with the Ministry or Education (and will continue to do so) with a desire to see the roll caps lifted.  We would very much value your prayers that the roll increase applications would receive positive responses and that we can provide Christian Education for more families into the future.

If you know your child will not be returning to Emmanuel for 2024 can you please let us know as this will allow us to offer places to students currently on our waiting list.

Thank you

Scholastic Book Club Orders

Once per term each student will receive a brochure for the book club to bring home.  This is a great time to purchase some gifts for Christmas.  If you select ‘gift’ the books will be delivered to the Office instead of to your child in the classroom.

If you would like to order any of the books, this can be done online on LOOP.
For your first time you will need to register in order to make a Book Club LOOP login.

We cannot take orders/payment via the Office so please order online.
Instructions are on the back of the brocure.  You will have approximately two weeks to place your order. Once orders close, they will be sent to school and will come home with your child. On all orders the school earns 15% in scholastic rewards which benefits our school library.

Emmanuel Christian School does not endorse all material that is available for purchase from Scholastic Book Club.  Please use your discernment when picking reading material for your child.

Issue 7 orders close: Wednesday 25th October

If you didn’t receive a brochure we have some at the Office and they are also available online on LOOP.
