Market Day

As part of the Year 7 & 8 Enterprise Studies, they have been creating and developing businesses that will provide goods and services for the students.

On Thursday 1st December during lunchtime (12.30pm – 1.15pm) there will be a chance for students to purchase these goods or participate in their games.
This year is similar to last year where the focus is more on providing Canival type games and students are able to win pre-packaged prizes.  Some of the prizes include chocolate, a can of drink, candy floss and even a chance to splash a teacher.

The price of items will be between $1 – $4.  On the day, the students will exchange their money for tickets.  There will be two different coloured tickets; one will represent 50c and the other $1.  This will be their currency to spend at the market stalls.

Please note: although some prizes will be treat food items, there will not be food available to purchase for lunch.  Students must bring their lunch as usual.

This year the money made from Market Day will be going to Tear Fund – Gift for Life charity.

Final Assembly

Kia ora Parents and Caregivers,

Prizegiving – Final Assembly – Friday 9th December 1:00pm

As you are hopefully aware we will be holding our end of year Prizegiving on:

Friday 9th December starting at 1:00pm

Venue:  La Vida Community and Conference Centre

              34a Hansons Lane

It would be great to see many parents, grandparents and other members of the school community join us for this end of year celebration.  After the Covid disruptions of 2021 we are really excited to be able to invite you all to join us in person this year.

Students will travel by bus to La Vida for this event.  At the end of the prizegiving they will be able to travel directly home with you.

We are aware that some students will need to travel back to Emmanuel Christain School and we have bus transport aranged for this.

To enable us to plan this transport can you please complete this form so we know if your child will require transport back to school or will be leaving with you from La Vida.

We would appreciate it if you can all complete this form so we can ensure we know the plans for each student.

Violin and Cello Performance

On Wednesday 30th November at 1.15pm there will be a short concert put on by our violin and cello students who have been taught this year by the tutors from the Christchurch School of Music Outreach Strings programme.
Parents and caregivers are welcome to come and watch.  There will be information and enrolment forms for anyone interested in learning a string instrument next year.
The concert will start after lunch at 1.15pm in the Hall and will be under 30 minutes.

Summer Reading

At the start of each new school year, we often see evidence of ‘The Summer Slide’ in our pupils. This means that the some of the gains they have made in Reading over the previous year are lost.
Research shows that as much as 3 months of progress could be lost over the summer
holidays. Every year!
Research on the summer slide and summer reading | Services to Schools (natlib.govt.nz)

To help with this, we invite your family to borrow books from our library to enjoy over the holidays.

Your child may borrow up to ten books for the holidays so long as:

  •  they have no outstanding loans or charges, and
  •  they are returning to ECS next year

If you wish your child(ren) to participate, please fill in the form attached. A copy will be sent home next week and return it to the Library by 2nd December. Extra forms will be available in
the office.
When permission has been received, your children may borrow up to 10 books each
during their library time in Week 8. (5th – 9th December). If you would like to choose for
them, or help them make their choices, the Library will also be open on Monday 5th and
Wednesday 7th December, from 2:45 to 3:30pm.
These books will need to be returned in the first week of school in 2023. Please
try to keep them together so that it is an easy job to locate them for their return.
They could be kept in the bag provided by you!

Summer Holiday Reading Challenge :

Take a photo of someone reading in an interesting place! Up a tree..? In a tent..?
Where else could be fun?  (P.S. It should be a real person!)
Email these to me, and I’ll make a display in February!
