Cultural Day

On Thursday of week 10 (29th September) it is our school’s Cultural Day.
It is a great day for us to celebrate our amazingly diverse school community.

Cultural Day will begin with a parade in the morning and students are encouraged to come to
school dressed in traditional clothes (or something that reflects this) of the culture they relate to. If your child(ren) would prefer not to do this, then they just wear their school uniform. In the case that the traditional clothing is special, students are able to change out of them and back into their school uniforms following the parade.

As part of the celebrations, we plan to set up the hall with cultural stations representing some of
the cultures in our school. This will run in the afternoon from 1:30pm until 3:30pm. For this, we
need your support. If you are willing to help with the event, whether it is providing materials, ideas, or coming to run a station, or have any other questions please contact

Final Economics Lunch Orders due today

Today (Friday 16th) is the final day to place pre-orders for the Economics/Enterprise lunch on Tuesday 20th September.  Please ensure you get your orders in by the end of the day.

Time 2 Talk – Parent Information Night

Tuesday 20th September 7- 8:30pm at school.

An evening for parents of children at all year levels.

(Please note this event is not suitable for you to bring your children.  The focus is on equiping parents).

In today’s digital world, young people being exposed to pornography isn’t a question of ‘if’ but ‘when’. Pornography is sweeping through our society like a tsunami, and we have yet to see the long-term impacts. By providing strategies that allow parents and kids to work as a team, we can mitigate the harmful effects of pornography on Aotearoa’s young people.

Tāima Kōrero equips parents and educators with the tools to effectively talk about pornography with young people. By having the right conversations in a timely way, we can reduce the impact of pornography and support our young people to have healthy sexual relationships as adults.

Brett Harvey will share from his own experience,  research and within the framework of his personal Christian faith.

Testimonial:

“Dealing with anything to do with pornography can be an incredibly difficult and sensitive conversation. The Time 2 Talk Team handle this potentially explosive topic with great dignity, value, and authenticity. Their presentation contains a very positive, inspiring, and encouraging message while at times needs to be confronting and challenging. ALL adults (not just parents), will benefit from the words of wisdom and hope that are passionately shared. The Time 2 Talk Team are VERY easy to deal with and will not push themselves on any school or organisation. They listen and tailor their message to meet your needs. Their overall aim is simple. They have a genuine desire to help parents help children to stand against the toxic and insidious effects of pornography.”

Host Families Wanted

Canterbury College is hosting a visit from almost 200 Japanese students and teachers from Teikyo University High School, starting on 28th November through to December 13, 2022.

We are urgently seeking host families willing to share their family life with a Japanese student over this two-week period.  Our experience of hosting foreign students is that our own children and the foreign students gained much from their mutual interactions.
