Covid Update – Mask wearing at School

In response to the increasing number of Covid -19 cases being currently observed, the Ministries of Health and Education have asked all schools to update their mask wearing policies.  As we have worked this through we have made the following changes to our Mask Policies, these will be reviewed again before the end of Week 4 (Friday 19th August).

From Monday 25th July the following Mask Policy will be in place:

Staff and Students in classes from Years 5-10 should wear masks when inside unless they have a mask exemption.  Information on getting an official mask exemption can be found at Mask Exemption Application.
It is noted that swimming is a time when wearing masks is not practical.  There are other times (PE Lessons) where mask wearing may also be impractical.
– Staff and Students in Year 1-4, masks continue to be optional in class.
– Outside of classes, all staff should wear masks when in any indoor working spaces with other people present.  This includes shared office spaces, staff meetings etc.
– Singing and playing wind instruments can continue, however, maintaining physical distancing and good ventilation is important.
– For Year 7-10 students this mask wearing requirement will include their offsite technology classes at Middleton Grange and Christchurch Adventist School.  Middleton will ensure that this is the case for the Year 9-10 technology classes for students from all of the schools involved.
Any parents and visitors on site will be asked to wear masks at all times

We know that that some of our tamariki and staff are exempt from wearing a mask. If they have an exemption card or a letter from their health provider, we will support them to not wear a mask. Apply for a face mask exemption pass – Unite Against COVID-19

Please note: If your child is unwell (including coughs, sore throats, running noses) can we please ask that you keep them home from school.  If they do test positive for COVID-19 please continue to let us know as soon as practical.

Important Dates

First Day Term 3: Monday 25th July

Teacher Only Day: Monday 29th August

Parent Teacher Interviews:  Thursday 4th and Tuesday 9th August

Year 1-6 Swimming – Reminder starts on Monday

Every year the school provides opportunities for students to engage in lessons that focus on water safety and survival skills for life. This year in weeks 1 and 2 of Term 3, Monday to Friday, lessons will be available at the Graham Condon Sports and Recreation Centre. The Swimsafe programme provided is based on Swimming New Zealand’s foundation skills in which children will learn entry, balance, buoyancy, breathing and water safety.

Uniform:  If it would assist your child when getting changed, they are welcome to wear their PE uniform during these two weeks.

Please ensure that students have all of their uniform and swimming gear well named.  If they do not already have a suitable bag to carry their swimming gear in we have found that the zip up re-usable freezer bags available from the supermarkets work really well

Parents are most welcome to come and watch the progress being made.  There is no charge for the lessons or transport to and from the pool.
If your child is unable to participate please email your child’s classroom teacher. If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact the teacher of the child concerned or log on to www.ccc.govt.nz/rec-and-sport/learn-to-swim/swimsafe/

Arriving at School

Please can we ask that you do all you can to have your child at school before 8:45 so they are ready for the start of the day.  We would also request that they do not arrive on the school site before 8:20am if this is at all possible.

If your child arrives at school late it is important that you bring them to the Office to sign in.  Alternatively parents may deliver their child to their classroom and then come to the Office to sign their child in as late.
If your child arrives at school late, after the roll has been taken, we need to have a record of them arriving at school.  The teachers are unable to update the roll after it has been taken so it’s vitally important that students sign in at the Office once they arrive at school.

Year 3-10 Parent Teacher Conferences

On Thursday 4th and Tuesday 9th August  we will be running Parent Teacher Conferences.  Bookings will be available on both days from 3:10pm until just before 7:30pm

For parents of students in Year 3-10 this will be a chance to meet with your child’s teacher(s) and discuss their progress over the first half of 2022

We would encourage you to bring your child with you, so they can contribute to this discussion.

To make a booking please go to: Booking Link

If this link does not work for you you can go to www.schoolinterviews.co.nz and enter the event code gurnk.

Bookings are currently open and will close at 6pm on Tuesday 2nd August.

We would encourage you to make this a priority if at all possible.

For those of you who also have a child in Years 1-2 your child’s teacher will contact you when they are due for their 3 way conference meeting.
