ECS Update Term 1, Week 6 – Friday 6th March 2026

Kia ora e te whānau,

As we move further into the term, school life is well underway. Classrooms are busy places of learning, friendships are continuing to grow, and it has been encouraging to see students settling into the rhythms of the year. Thank you for the many ways you continue to support the life of the school, through encouragement, prayer, and the everyday partnership that exists between home and school.  It has been great to see many of you at the parent teacher interviews this week, for those of you who did not get to these on Thursday a further opotunity is available on Tuesday afternoon.

In the midst of busy weeks, it is helpful for us to be reminded of the importance of stillness. In the Gospel accounts of Jesus feeding the 5,000, we see a beautiful rhythm in the life of Christ. Before and after a very full day of teaching and caring for the crowds, Jesus withdrew to spend time alone with the Father. From that place of stillness He was able to respond with compassion, provide for the needs before Him, and lead with clarity.

Later that same night, when the disciples found themselves struggling in the storm on the lake, Jesus came to them as the One who is Lord even over the waves. It is a reminder that the work before us is never sustained by effort alone, but by remaining close to God and trusting in His provision.

As Psalm 46:10 encourages us, “Be still, and know that I am God.” In the busyness of school life, our prayer is that we would all continue to learn what it means to pause, trust in God’s goodness, and recognise His faithful presence among us.

Ngā mihi nui,

Alistair McKinnon

Music Festival – Years 5-8

Our choir is excited to be part of the Christchurch Schools’ Music Festival this year.

The Festival is still looking for more applications to audition for one of the Representative groups.  They are looking for the best singers for the Junior Choir (Yr 5 & 6) and Senior Choir (Yr 7 & 8), and for talented musicians (Grade 3 equivalent and above) to audition for the Orchestra and Concert Band.

The audition process takes only 5 minutes and each student is auditioned individually. Information on what is required in the audition is on our website.

The Representative groups are on stage in the Christchurch Town Hall for every performance of the Festival (4 nights).  With more than a thousand people in the audience and 900 children in the choir stalls watching every night, it is an amazing experience they will never forget.

To find out more information or to register your child click here:

Be quick, registrations close 01 April. For Years 5-8 students only.
